The Houston Convention Center Hotel Corporation is a non-profit corporation created February 2, 2000, by the Houston City Council, whose primary focus is to envision, fund, develop, construct, operate and maintain a flagship convention headquarters hotel adjacent to the expanded George R. Brown Convention Center. As a result, the Hilton Americas-Houston was opened in December, 2003 and supports the activities within the George R. Brown Convention Center to increase its utilization and strives to enhance and promote city-wide convention and tourism activities and thereby the generation and collection of pledged hotel occupancy taxes realized by the City of Houston.
The Hilton Americas-Houston is a centerpiece of Houston's downtown revitalization along with Minute Maid Park, the Toyota Center and Discovery Green Park recently developed by Downtown Park Conservancy.
The nine-member corporation board is chaired by Ric Campo. Other board members are Greg Armstrong, Dr. Judith Craven, David Solomon, Charles L. Drayden, Luis Elizondo-Thomson, Joe Ting, Moez Mangalji and Nicole West.
Also serving the board are president Dawn Ullrich, treasurer Peter McStravick and secretary Dolores Kerr.
Hilton Hotels Corporation, one of the largest owners and operators of hotels in the world, operates the hotel.
